We all know what kind of dumpster fire 2020 was. So far I can’t say that 2021 is looking much better. So how do we cope with things while some of us are back to or still in quarantine? As for me I’ve been trolling YouTube for parody and original songs about Covid and lock down. These kicky, always hilarious songs are just what the doctor ordered for those day’s when it all just seems like it’s too much.
Check out my list of favorites below and let me know which one is your favorite and if I missed something let me know!
On with the music already!
From Ashes to New – Wake Me Up When 2020 Ends
This track is a parody of the Greenday track Wake Me Up When September Ends. While the lyrics are often spit take worthy, it’s the video that really makes this one shine. I can’t decide what I liked better the onesie clad guitarist or the dinosaur. If that’s not enough to get you to watch this video then how about the Purge inspired ending?
The Holderness Family – I Knew Zoom Was Trouble
Choosing your favorite Holderness parody song is like trying to choose your favorite kitten video, nearly impossible. My 9 year old weighed in on this one and I have to agree. If your lucky enough to be working remotely during the pandemic you understand the trials and tribulations of the Zoom meeting. From problems with screen sharing to WIFI issues this song covers it all. This Taylor Swift parody is so true, not laughing is not an option.
Hello (from the Inside) An Adele Parody by Chris Mann
If the name sounds some what familiar, it’s because you probably have heard of this cat. He was in a season (I forget which one, there were tons) The Voice that saw him compete. I would have never guessed from his time to The Voice how funny he is. While there are several songs he’s parodied at this point I think Hello is my favorite of the bunch. I feel like we can all empathize with where he is at, as we are all sitting on the couch as well. His reference to scrolling through cat memes are so much yes. And even though the witty lyrics are all the win you need in 2021, it’s really the video that brings this song home. It’s proof that pants have become totally optional these days.
Brent McCollough – Stayin’ Inside
When I stumbled upon this disco treat I was barely able to contain my laughter. The original Bee Gee’s track “Staying Alive” has lived on long past the glory day’s of disco and I an only hope that this parody has as long a life. This ode to staying inside, washing your hands and being safe is just what we needed. It’s light and fun and makes self isolation feel a lot less sucky.
Kurt Tocci – Disney Characters in Quarantine
This one is a mash up of all sorts of fun Disney film soundtrack hits with the kind of twist M. Night Shyamalan would be proud of. Consider if your favorite Disney character was stuck in quarantine like the rest of us. What would those songs sound like? There have been many different videos made with this concept but this is one of my favorites. I feel like it will certainly put a smile on your face. Not that any one could tell underneath your mask!
