Lucid Rapture – Comet

Regular readers of this site know I’m not a huge Rap/Hip-Hop fan, I am however a huge fan of any one who is willing to put themselves out there like Lucid Rapture has. Comet is an interesting read more

Sleepless Wild – Stick N Stones

Dude, I couldn’t talk that fast on speed. That just amazes me how fast some of these guys can spit flow.  The music kind of annoys me a bit but only because I really want to focus on this guy’s lyrics. Sometimes I find myself being distracted by the musical composition. It’s good, don’t get me wrong. I like the guitar line, it’s got some really nice runs. But this track is all about the vocals no doubt about it. I’m calling this a rap track mostly due to the flow and absence of melody. Notice I said absence and not lack? This track lacks nothing! I’m not even a fan of rap as a whole, but this track is the real deal.

Wow, it’s so rare that I get excited about a rap track but I’m stoked about this one. That is one crazy ass flow going on. This guy has a lot to say and I find myself wanting to hear every last word of it. It’s finding songs like this one that really keeps me going. It continues to break down my own musical stereotypes on a regular basis. I really want to download this song and use it for a jumping off point to build a full on rap list. I would for sure add some Eminem to it, mostly because that’s primarily what I have and his beats would pair with Sleepless Wild rather well. I also intend to check out every song they have online.

Dan Quinn – Take Me Away

I really like the female vocal track in this rap/hip hop track. It’s the perfect foil to the male rap portions of the song. She has a really beautiful tone to her voice. The story line of the rap is one I think anyone can relate to male or female. We’ve all been here and understand the pain that comes when a relationship falls apart. Dan’s rap skills are really strong and he does it in a new way. I even like the fact that you can hear his accent from time to time. I think it’s kinda sexy like that.

As far as rap/hip hop this was a pretty good jam. I keep listening to this style of music and I admit that it’s growing on me more and more with every review. I’m not as big a fan of this track as I have been some others that I’ve reviewed but I think that might be the song itself. I would like to listen to more of Dan’s music to see if I can find a song that gives me that spark. I have a strong feeling it’s there so I will be investigating more of his work. For those who are lovers of the genre do yourself a favor and check this track out. Maybe even drop me a line and let me know what you thought of this song.

ANTHONY TUCKER – Turn Up

This is one of those rare tracks that has me lost. I’m not a fan of this type of rap due to some of its lyrics. So I’m going to try and be as objective as I can on this review.
I liked the female vocals here, it’s a nice high sweet tone that reminds me of some of the hip hop of the 80’s. The rap has a good flow, but don’t try to listen to this around your kids or at work. The flow itself is a really laid back pace. I think if I could get over some of the lyrics I would like this track a bit more.

This one was really rough for me to review. I don’t get a lot of time to listen to tunes without my kiddos around so I have to edit my playlists with that in mind. However, for those who like the genre and style. This is a great track. It’s got a good rap flow backed up a lovely songbird. It certainly sets the mood for date night after dinner and the movie, maybe a few drinks. I could see getting down with this in the background. Due to my lack of experience with this genre I would suggest you listen to the track and build your playlist with other songs you like in the same vein.

Jacob Machine the Dream King – Under Pressure ft. Greg Picket

I’ve always kind of liked that behind the music kind of feel when you hear the artists talking either before or after the song. The music is really good. Reminds me of some of the older Carlos Santana stuff.  The rap lyrics are really good, but it’s an odd thing because the rap vocals have this odd tone. A bit like if the nerdy guy at school started rapping. For some reason it makes me think of some Bloodhound game vibes. The lyrics tell a great story and the flow is rather amazing. The melody in the chorus is really damn good. I love that rich full voice.

I enjoyed the track, certainly enough to check out some more. I don’t know that this will be my favorite Jacob Machine song but it does make me want more. So that’s pretty good. I want to put this on a list though with some of the Santana pair up songs like the songs with Nickleback’s Chad Kroger, Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas and The Product G&B. I bet this would flow like water in that list. So maybe I will download it. Hrmmm….

King D Mr. Perfect – Music in my Soul

There are a lot of things I liked about this track. I enjoyed the story that he is telling us, and I happen to agree with most of what he’s saying. I certainly understand the idea of not doing it for the money, the music is in my soul. I even liked the beats and the overall flow of the rap. But here’s what made me sad, I think this guy has a great voice when they aren’t running it through all those filters. I get that it’s a hot thing to do, but if your talented I wanna hear you! I feel that way about this cat. He’s got a great voice, not just for rap but his singing voice is also really damn strong! Really this is meant as a compliment, I enjoyed his voice enough I would love to hear him singing more.

I’m going to check out more tracks to see if I can find one that doesn’t have all the filters. I have a couple of friends who will absolutely love this track so I plan on downloading it so they can hear it. I may keep a copy on my server to add a bit of flair to some of my playlists, but I would rather find one of his songs minus the filters.

gLife – Indy (Live at the Great Saltair)

This song made me smile at the beginning. No small feat for someone who isn’t known for their love of rap or hip hop. I’m really digging the flow though! That is some amazing rhyming right there son. One of the most surprising thing about this song is its use of a violin. There is something about hearing that instrument in the midst of what is often an almost chaotic composition is almost like a life line. It also is capable off adding a sense of dread when needed at points in the track. Really surprising all the way around. I gotta say I like this one.

I would be down to check out more of their stuff. Honestly it’s the violin that got me. While I liked the vocal styles and have nothing but respect for the flow it’s that violin I keep coming back to.  I need to analyze more of their work. List wise I suppose you could pair it with just about any rap/hip hop song, but I would probably pair it with my Linkin Park or From Ashes to New. Mostly because I felt like there was more going on here musically than I hear on radio rap songs.
