I am loving the rhythm of the intro, if the rest of the song is half as good we have a winner. Lots of truly solid percussion going on. As we move into the song the percussion is taken back to the background and the vocals take the lead. The soaring vocals could wake the dead they are so damn good. I also wanna throw props to whoever is doing the backing vocals. The harmonies are absolutely killer! That lead’s gotta a perfect voice for that Nu Metal style that they are kicking in the nards. This may be some of the best stuff I’ve heard in a long, long time. There are some moments where the musical composition has me thinking about some of my favorite Slipknot songs. The guitar work is nice and dirty but not overtaking any of the other instruments or the vocals. I only had to listen to this track once to know I loved it. The second, third and fourth time were just for me.

I can’t wait to listen to more of their work. I’m entranced by the vocals and the music is brilliantly done. I can’t believe I’ve not heard them before. I’m going to be checking with my favorite rock station to see if they are playing it and I’m just missing it. If they aren’t I’m go to be sending Pressive the info so they can get on the air here in my area. I’m also going to be downloading this song to my phone so I can share it with my new workmates as well as friends. Playlist wise, you could match them with Red, Chevelle, or older Breaking Benjamin. Mostly what I would consider more melodic rock style bands.

The Amplifires – Gimme Shelter

I seriously love the original Stones version of this song. So I’m always excited to listen to covers of it. This is one of the most original covers I’ve ever heard. While they elected to keep the pacing and melody of the song just about every thing else is just a sconce different. For instance, the guitars are a butt load more grungy and edgy. It was a really good way to modernize the song. The drum line doesn’t sound like it was messed with much, which in my opinion is a good thing. What really makes this cover stand out is the vocal track. I think this is the first version of the song I’ve heard with a female vocalist. It’s an interesting change up from the dusty vocals of Jagger or even the garbled vocal style of Wes Scantlin (Puddle of Mudd).

In this reviewers humble opinion it’s a very creative choice in covers. You need a certain amount of gravitas to really make it work. While I really liked the music track and the variations they went with to make this song their own, I’m not sold on the female vocals. I love her voice, don’t get me wrong. She has an amazing range and a nice clear sound to her voice. But for me the match wasn’t quite there. That being said, I was certainly entertained by the song and because I liked all the elements I am down to listen to more. In fact they list “Hash Pipe” on their reverbnation page. I fully intend to listen to that as soon as I’m done with this review. My suggestion is listen to this song and then check out more of their work on one of the links below.

Who They Are:

The Amplifires history starts in late 2005 when David Brunt bought a guitar case from Steve Rawlinson via Ebay and, after realising that Steve was just a couple of miles away, went to collect it. Steve was looking to form another band as was David so with shared musical interests – two pieces of the jigsaw in place!Meanwhile Steve already knew Sharon and her musical background. An opportunity had arisen earlier to play guitar in Sharon’s presence and memorably the sound of Blondie’s ‘Call Me’ guitar riff was quickly accompanied by Sharon’s voice. Another piece of the jigsaw in place. 3 drummers – Ted, Ruth and Kim -, hundreds of gigs, and a tour of 3 states of America later, and the Amplifires have recently been completed by the arrival of Sandy Mitchell, who is just as excited by original music and a desire to play. The Amplifires’ first album, Fire On The Moon, was released in 2008 and it received major airplay across the world, featuring as CD of the week in such cities as New York, Adelaide, Ottowa and Hamburg, The band remain proud of this achievement. This was followed 18 months later with the release of the album S.W.A.L.K and three other single releases. In September 2009 the band completed a 15 date tour in the NW USA in Pennsylvania, New York and Ohio, culminating in a great gig in Potsdam. Kim Chester joined us on the drums shortly after our return from the USA, replacing Ruth Dobson, and we continued to gig locally and extend our own repertoire. Kim left us due to work commitments in summer 2013. Sandy joined us as drummer late in 2013 and we’re now looking forward to a great 2014. Sandy brings with him his experience of many years of playing in bands which will add a new dimension to what we do.

Nemeton III – Avalon Calling

I’ve been getting a lot of ambient music lately so I decided to embrace it. I spend a lot of time chillin’ out and the right music can make or break your mellow. I like the subtle layering in this piece. The background sound are so soothing and relaxing. But the addition of the synth styling makes it oddly stimulating at the same time. I also liked the way that the chime sounds accented the gentle sways of the synth music. This not an ambient song that you would want to play before bed. Well, unless you like to have some back ground music for other things. In that case this would be a perfect song.

Since I’ve been expanding my musical horizon’s I have found a number of the ambient songs I’ve reviewed are sticking in my head. I liked this one and would download it for those overly stressful days. Despite this being a stimulating tune I found it had some rather relaxing aspects for me.

Nino Lucarelli – Easier

I love the upbeat nature of this jam. It’s got a good upbeat tempo and leaves with these ideas of endless freedom. Remember how you felt leaving school the last day of the year with summer just out there waiting for you? That is how this song feels to me. I love the message, you gotta go for it and never give up. I think these day’s that’s some thing every one could hear a bit more in their lives. Times are tough and he even addresses that face in the song. In facet that is another thing about the song that I liked, was the smart lyrics. Especially that part about waking up and looking at a screen.

Honestly I loved this song. It has a great upbeat tempo that you can groove to and lyrics you can really get behind. To me that makes it a sing along song. And tell the truth, who doesn’t love those. I would like to put this song on my list with FUN, oh and just about every summer anthem you’ve ever heard. I don’t know why but for me that would be home.

The Last Ones – Not Comin’ Back

I love the straight up old school rock feel of this song. They built this jam on solid classic rock style drum line that makes a great backbone for the guitar, bass and vocals. As far as the vocals are concerned, the gruff style of the vocals was a brilliant match to the style of the song. He has moments where the pleading tone of his voice is the perfect highlight to the lyrics. The is a truly inspired guitar solo in the middelish section of the song that breaks into an awesome riff you have to hear. I really dig the guitar work on this song, it’s putting a smile on my face every time I listen to the song.

Between the vocals and the guitar work I’m sold on this band. The drum work is a sweet, sweet bonus. I liked this song enough that I would like to have it for my playlists. I have a couple of classic rock lists that it would fit well on. I would look for some guitar heavy work, off the top of my head I’m thinking some Zakk Wylde.

Christopher Giles – Lights in Stereo

If this isn’t an anthem song, I’ll eat a shoe. No salt even. Party of me is screaming boy bands watch out cause Christopher does what you do, but better and with less bodies. That makes him the winner right there. At the same time I have this voice in my head saying “you know you want to see this guy tour with Seether”. This song has the same kind of anthemic feel as Seether’s song Tonight. At odd time by brain even said things like, “he could play with Blink!” All of the above are actually correct. The guys voice is so full of the promise of good times in this song. It’s a party in your speakers. The beat is some where between pop/rock and punk. He’s got a great range and is able to hit some higher notes with out breaking a sweat. I’m on my second listen to this song and loving the staccato run of the drums during the verses. When the guitars come back in they match the tone of the vocals and the drums. None of the instruments are in competition for attention which is good, because the voice is what your going to be paying attention to.

I will play this in my car, I’ll request it in the bar, I will play it in my home, I will listen with a gnome…
Ok, you get the point. I liked this song and I will most certainly be listening to his other offerings. This song was the right amount of upbeat, happy go lucky that I really like to have around. It’s one of those songs that if your having a bad day you throw it on and get happy. Playlist wise I would pair this with my older Green Day, some of the Neon Trees that I like and just about any anthem song you can think of. It would also be a perfect addition ot any party playlist you have or need to create.

Chris’s Love for music began like most, at a very young age. Music was a way to escape, connect with, and provide a sense of belonging to the world around him. Chris’s brother started drumming as a teenager, thus providing an opportunity to see music from a different side. Instead of just admiring and/or gravitating to a specific song or genre , he was able to appreciate music from an artistic creative view as well.. Rachel Layne – I Wonder

This is a very sweet song. I love the poetry in the lyrics and Rachel is able to paint a lovely picture with her voice. Her guitar work is beautifully done. You can tell she spends a lot of time working with her instrument. Vocally she has moments of shinning brilliance. There were a few spots where it sounded like she was just under the notes, but it wasn’t some thing that would pull you out of the song. And any vocal misteps are easily overlooked by her talent as a songwriter and guitar player. She is a young girl with an incredible amount of talent. It always amazes me when I see such talent in younger people. The only place you have to go is up girl!

I think this is a girl to keep your eye on. In her bio she say’s her favorite thing to do is write and I could see her writing songs that will win Grammy’s. I plan to listen to more of her stuff to check out the lyrical content. Her songwriting style has such a beautiful vibe, very raw and honest. As a music fan I like it when I can hear the vulnerability in the voice and the words. I think Rachel is able to do that with style and class.

Hi, I’m Rachel and I am a singer and songwriter. I love to write, compose, sing, play and perform music. If you ask me what my very favourite thing to do is – I would say write. When I write I openly express my feelings and emotions – and for me that is how I get through all kinds of situations. All my songs come from my heart. I love talking to people of all ages and love to see them smile. I am so thankful for all of the incredible opportunities that I have been blessed with including singing at: the Opening Ceremonies of the International Children’s Winter Games, YVR Canucks for Kids Charitable Event, anthem for the Vancouver Canucks (NHL), anthem and halftime for the BC Lions Football (CFL), and 2012 and 2013 Showcases at CCMA Music Week. Phazy Luckers – The More I Die

I like the intro, nice and clean plus you can hear the bass. The music for this song creates it’s own atmosphere I swear! That is totally awesome. The vocalist is like an amalgamation of every female singer I’ve ever heard. She has moments where she has the depth and gravel of Stevie Nicks to the high sweet tones that are reminiscent of Amy Lee. This is one rock solid song. There is a guitar solo worthy of grabbing sheet music. I realize I’m all over the place here so let me start anew with some attempt at focus. Vocally this is a stunning song, offering a glimpse into what this woman is capable of doing. The guitar work is equally stellar, treating us to a range of riffs that seem to float just above the surface of the song. I’m such a fan of any song where the bass line can be so clearly heard. The framework of the song is held together by their skilled drummer. This is a midtempo song with some up beat moments that are the punctuation of the track.

The things she does with her voice are simply astounding. There’s a warble there the is beyond beautiful. Matched with the musical composition this song is a winner. I could set this in a playlist with some Evanescence or the slower Smashing Pumpkins to the darker Foo Fighters stuff. Over all I have to say that I loved this track. It was more than enough to make me want to hear more from theme. I will be downloading this tune and putting it on my phone. I’ll most likely add it to my media server to. Then I can add it to some existing playlists to get the rest of the family listening to it.

The Phazy Luckers is a 4-piece modern/alt rock band based in Geneva, Switzerland, comprising Roxane (vocals), Adrian (guitar), David (bass) and Math (drums).
Originally formed in Geneva in 2007, the current line-up was completed with the arrival of Roxane (vocals) in 2009 and Math (drums) in early 2010, since when the band has played various gigs in the Geneva region and nearby France, including an appearance at the prestigious Festiverbant festival in 2011.
Although clearly fans of 80’s and 90’s guitar driven-rock, the band’s style – Roxane’s challenging and disturbing lyrics, Adrian’s riff s, Dave’s weaving and intricate bass lines and Math’s powerhouse drumming – meld together to create a new take on high energy modern rock. 8 Minutes Later – Unknown Title

It starts off with a nice slow burn guitar line, that builds on itself while the drums come in. The solid bass line brings the tune together. It’s a live track so it’s harder than I would like for it to be to hear the vocals. From what I can hear though this is a really tight band with some stellar vocals. I like the rough quality to the lead singers vocals, it’s almost Springsteenish with it’s gruff every man quality. I wish I had a title for this song, but there wasn’t one listed on Youtube.

Sadly according to their Facebook page the band is disbanding. Despite the fact that I’ve only heard this one song a handful of times during my review process I’m saddened that they aren’t going to be putting out any more music. They are a great band and the players sound like they worked well together. I understand that some times things don’t work out in a band, much like a marriage. I hope that the members are able to move forward and continue to make music.

Escapeinout – Virtual Disorder

As soon as this song kicked in I had a smile on my face. The percussion in this song is heaven sent, it’s just that good. I’m loving the change ups in the rhythm of the jam. Vocals have me all like, it’s Phil from Pantera, but Phil (though I love him) couldn’t get that kinda scream going. This guy screams like hell and then flawlessly switches over to growling his ass off. I’m on my second listen so I can catch those drums. I’m a freak for percussion. That’s one of the reasons I love Slipknot as much as I do. This drum line is going to keep your ass up and moving. So if you need to get motivated, this is your jam! I’m seeing a third listen so I can close in on those guitars. Very edgy work on the guitar lines. I love some of these riffs, they are working so perfectly with the drums and vocals.

I’m so going to download every thing I can get my hands on from this band. I want to put them on my list with the old school metal favs like Sepultura and Pantera as well as my new favs like Slipknot and some of the Five Finger Death Punch I love to listen to. I’m still fairly new to the genre so every time I find a new band that I like I get so excited. I think the music is still greatly underplayed so I plan to make every one of my friends listen to this song and share it with all their friends. I just can’t wait to get this on my phone. I’ve got a long car trip in a month and this is going to be going with me.

Who They Are:

The Escapeinout are an Italian Metal band from Scordia, (Italy) formed in 2008. The creators of the band are bass player R.G. and vocalist Strazzio. Together, they made the first demo of the band, consisting of five tracks, in a small recording studio, set up by R.G. Noise (bass). This is where they came up with the name “Escapeinout”. The name of the band has a precise meaning: escaping aimlessly in a world of chaos and panic, with hidden references to the work of the devil in any natural or man-made disaster. The band is represented by a girl wearing a gas-mask sewn on her mouth and by an emblem representing a five-pointed star in an upright position encased in a circle, symbolizing the source of creation, which contains a smaller inverted star with two points up, symbolizing the worship of evil forces. This emblem is also used on the cover of the first album as a gas-mask filter. After a short break, the two members decided to show some tracks to guitarist Zed Favara and drummer Frank B.who also joined the band. The band, now made of four members, started breathing a new sound.

Leona’s Sister – Night Turns Into Darkness

I love the grungy guitar work, that always makes me smile. While this chick sounds nothing like Courtney Love I have to say that she has that same vocal style. Kinda sloppy delivery with a lot of grit and feeling in each line. I hope that came out right because I love Love’s voice and mean that sloppy bit as a high compliment. It’s hard to do that style of vocal with out it sounding bad. This girl is any thing but bad, bad ass maybe. I really like her register, it’s the deeper end of the register for ladies and all rock. Musically this song is 100% rock. There is the nice tight drum line that sets a perfect pace for the song. As I said there is a lot of dark grungy guitar work setting a sinister tone that matches the lyrics in such a lovely fashion. I think the chorus is extremely catchy, your going to want to learn the words to this song.

I am entranced enough with this particular tune I would be happy to check out the rest of their catalog. I’m not one to suggest cover work to any band, yet some how I would love to hear this chick cover some Hole. She has the perfect voice for just about any thing that band did. I would put this on my Power Ladies playlist with all my Hole, Joan Jett, In This Moment and Halestorm. I have this feeling that the vocalist here is taming that fabulous voice and I would love to hear it fully unleashed. I’m hoping that one of their other songs has here really belting out some lyrics.

Who They Are:

“Leona’s Sister” was originally a recording project created in 1998 by JT. With a few friends, she went into Studio92 and recorded the first CD, “Almost Alive”. In 1999, the project developed into a more regular pattern and the band “Leona’s Sister” was born. More songs, new players, another visit to Studio92 and the second CD, “Out Of The Basement”, was born. Also in 1999, JT was almost killed by falling ice. This brought the band to a halt but she continued to write songs. In 2010, even though JT was still dealing with a lot of headaches from the injury, JT and Baz discussed reforming the band and approached Mike, their jamming partner. They also recruited Barb and Len who they met in the League of Rock’s winter 2010 session. 2011 saw Leona’s Sister back to Studio92 where they recorded their latest release. In August 2011, they released a 5 song EP titled, 552010. Mike left the band in August 2012 and Dave Hanson joined the band just in time to head into Phase One Studio where we recorded “Fishing” with producer David Barrett

MIND RIOT – Low

Ok, 2 seconds in and I love this song. The intro tells you every thing you need to know. I wanna swim in the singers voice it’s perfect and beautiful and damaged all at the same time. I can feel his emotion roll over me in every single line of this song. The harmonies are fall out amazing. Now that I fan girled out on the vocals I can tell you about the bitchin’ guitar work? There is a solo that is not to be missed. Seriously you’r going wit you’d heard it years ago. But you couldn’t cause the track is only like 5 months old. The tempo is mostly slow, but there are moments of uptempo brilliance. There is so much soul to this song that it’s unreal. I feel like I can’t say enough about it, this song is just that good. I’m on my 3rd listen already.

OH lordy I need more of this band. I don’t know if all their songs sound like this one and I don’t care. I know that I think the vocals are brilliant and the musical comp is amazing. With that in mind I can’t imagine that I wouldn’t like their other works. I would put them on a playlist with well, just about any one. I’d like to try them out with some of the slower Stone Sour jams maybe some Five Finger Death Punch, for sure Shinedown and possibly some 30 Seconds to Mars. Hells bells, I like this track so much I would shoehorn them in with bands like Maroon 5 just so I could hear it.

MINDRIOT have confirmed they will play this year’s award winning Indiependence Music and Arts Festival August 1st – 3rd as well as unveil their debut single “Fire” which will be released on Saturday April 26th at “An Bodhran” in Mitchelstown, Co. Cork.

MINDRIOT originally formed in 1992 and were influenced by bands of the time ranging from Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, KerbDog, Life of Agony and everything in between. Being very close childhood friends, over the years MINDRIOT have broken up, gotten back together, loved each other, hated each other and have done all the things you envisage a rock band to have done which is reflected honestly in their unique brand of rock. The members of MINDRIOT (Tony Gorry – Vocals/Lead Guitar, Mike Hoye – Rhythm Guitar, Liam O’Rourke – Bass and Steven Bartak – Drums) have amassed a vast amount of experience from playing at Oxygen Music Festival to supporting such acts as The Stunning, Juliet Turner, Bagatelle, Jack L to name a few.

The members of MINDRIOT are currently working with accomplished engineer and producer Ciaran O’Shea (“Cyclefly” fame) and are very excited to complete and officially release their debut EP at Indiependence Music and Arts Festival in August.

Vàrego – Hesperian

This may have one of the longest intro’s ever. I thought my sound was muted or some thing. But if you are patient and wait through it there are great rewards to be had. This is some seriously hard core heavy metal goodness. The general vibe is really sinister with a switch up tempo that goes from a quick uptempo to a slow pulse of a drum beat. The guitarist has some moments where the line is so damn fast I can barely make it out. Pretty bad ass if you ask me. Respect, cause back when I played this type of guitar line would have made me cry just to look at it. The dark grungy/screamy vocals are sheer perfection. Gritty slightly dirty and scary as hell is what I expect from a song like this and that is exactly what we are given.

I liked this song well enough that I would go check out the rest of their library. Though I don’t normally listen to hard core heavy metal, I can’t say that I never do. As a matter of fact both my husband and my eldest boy are huge fans of the genre so I do listen to it. I sat here and thought for ever about what bands I would match them with for playlist purposes and I couldn’t really think of any one. Since I’m not very well versed on this genre trying to come up with a perfect match is beyond me. But as for my personal playlist, I would probably put them on the same list that has my Slayer, Testament and Obituary. Mostly I listen to their old stuff, but I think Varego would go well with those bands.

Who They Are:

Vàrego is a new Italian entity formed by five musicians, veterans of the underground music circuit. Born in 2009 with a sound briefly compared to various post-metal genres, the band worked with the producer Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Melvins, High on Fire, among others) for the debut album “Tvmvltvm” out in July 2012 which received positive feedback across the board. In the following year, 2013, the band release a new EP entitled “Blindness of the Sun” The new ep is a natural progression of the esoteric concept developed in the previous album “TVMVLTVM”. The band completed the work again together with producer Billy Anderson. It consists of four new songs on mysticism and spirituality, as suggested by the cover artwork created exclusively for the band by the talented artist Marco Castagnetto (ZenPunkArt.com).
VAREGO worked with JARBOE (ex Swans), who honored the band with her unique and enchanting voice, full of emotion and strength, giving life to an authentic storm of avantgarde chaos. Also, on trumpets in one song, there is a special partnership with the Free-Jazz musician Giovanni “JJ” Sansone, known also for his co-operation with well known acts on the Italian music scene such as Casino Royale and La Crus.

Sycantrhope – Preservation of Perversion

Ok, so the intro is very synthy and oriental. I love the oriental vibe in just about any song. There is some simple keyboard work that overlays the synth work that is really nice. There is a modulating tempo that brings you up and then down. Feels like moments of reflection followed by inspiration. The programming allows Vadym Z. to weave the sounds from his instruments into a rich tapestry of sound. I would call this an ambient piece that is both a contemplative and inspirational work.

While this is not my cup of tea (I don’t really listen to ambient music), I would encourage any one who loves ambient to check this out. I was fascinated by the complex layering of sounds and the slowly changing tempos. If I was more into this style of music I would surely have it on a playlist. So please don’t let my personal opinion on it keep you from giving it a listen.

Start of the project dates back to 2009, when they begin first trials and first issues arise. By the variety of sound tastes arises a mix between rock music and electronic music, taking experimentally form. In 2013, tests will sound as a whole are made, and shortly after the first EP with three tracks edited. In late 2013, he recorded the first album, made a variety of topics before recorded as demos. In early 2014, the project decided to play around with sounds and record an environmental album, but it’s just another experiment more. Currently he is preparing the third album that will follow the line of the first, with added vocals. Main component of the project Vadym Z. (Sycantrhope). A mix of experimental music made by mixing classical, electronic and environmental sounds. Inspired from classical music to the xtreme metal.
