Four Nights Gone – The Scars Remain

Who They Are: Formed in Staten Island, New York in the summer of 2010, Four Nights Gone set out to start a name for themselves. Building a huge local following, and now expanding through social media touring, their sound hits hard and their live show hits even harder, being packed full of energy and memorable lyrics. The release of their Sophmore EP Resilience, produced by Mike Watts at Vudu Studios pushed the act’s sound even further.
Their sound has been described as “hard rock”, “alternative rock” and “modern rock”. They’ve played on Vans Warped Tour 2012 and shared the stage with bands such as 12 Stones, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Chunk, No Captain Chunk, Set It Off, Otherwise, Patent Pending, Born of Osiris and Divided by Friday, as well as playing Hard Rock Cafe in New York City, Highline Ballroom and many other venues across the country.

Why I Like Them: I’m loving the grungy guitar work on this track right off the bat. Oh my god, this guys voice is like butter. Oh hit me, hit me with those gorgeous harmonies. I’m reminded of some of the older Staind that I loved so damn much. Not so much vocally but with that floaty, ethereal quality. I also get a bit Three Days Grace influence maybe? I know currently that is who I would pair them with for a tour.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Totally. I love music that is smooth and floaty. I’m looking forward to see what else they have to offer. I suspect there may be a barn burner around here somewhere.

Who They Are: We are a band based in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. Not confining ourselves to one genre, we are continuously growing as musicians, always working to refine our sound. Why I Like Them: Wow, this is a powerful track for sure! All on man, with heavy hitting drums, screaming guitar work and oh those vocals. I’ve become a huge fan of music that has those screamy vocals and some melody/harmony along with it. This is a real real deal song here guys.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Oh yeah, I really liked what I heard here and would be all to happy to listen to more.

Who They Are: The idea behind From Ashes to New, is to do something fresh and meaningful. Why I Like Them:  Straight up this is the first song I reviewed that I immediately wanted more. Fucking hell! Their rap/metal mash up reminds me of the OLD Linkin Park days. Vocally I couldn’t ask for better. This guy’s vocal range is so amazing and strong. The rap portions are so fucking moving if you ask me. I love the lyrics so much. I’m already singing along as I’m writing this review. I actually have chills from this tune. If you aren’t listening to them and in love then you have no soul. This song is BADSASSDOM!

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: I’m planning on begging for concert tickets as soon as they come close to me. Are you kidding? Would I listen to more, fuck yeah. I really need more stars.

Disarray – Holocaust

Who They Are: The hardcore metalheads in Disarray first came together in 1993, when singer/guitarist Chuck Bonnett decided he wanted to chase his rock musician dreams. He formed lineup after lineup, releasing home-recorded albums like Widespread Human Disaster until he finally signed to Eclipse Records in the late ’90s. He added bassist Vance Wright and drummer Dave Peridore to the lineup and released A Lesson in Respect in 1999. The band played with several like-minded artists until they found a fan in Gwar frontman Oderus Urungus. He offered to produce the band, so they went with him to his recording studio and released the results, In the Face of the Enemy, in 2002.

 

Why I Like Them: So we start out with this epic intro to the song. Excellent guitar, bass and drum work. Hats off on that one! When the vocals kicked in every one in the room looked up and said the same thing, “Is that Phil Anselmo?” It’s not, but this guy is every bit as amazing as Mr. Anselmo. I would say that if you are into Pantera you would LOVE this one. I also felt a bit of an Iron Maiden thing happening here as well.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Hell yea!

Kory Brown – Little Love Games

Who They Are: Kory Brown strives to bring back the passionate rock of the 80’s with the modern feel of today’s acts. “Music today is missing a theatrical aspect that connects with the fans during live performances,” says Brown. “When it comes right down to it, music is all about the fans that choose to listen to your message as it’s conveyed in each song. Lyrics have to connect with your audience, have meaning and most importantly they have to be believable.”

Why I Like Them: I think Kory has done exactly what he set out to do with this particular song. I feel like I stepped in a time machine! I need my big hair and tight jeans with my fringe leather jacket. I’m in 80’s nirvana. I do miss those awesome guitar riffs and drum beats. I thought that the vocals were an amazing match for the music. I thought I got a bit of punk influence from time to time as well. But oh my it’s that guitar that really caught me.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: As long as it rocks as hard as this one did I surely would.

Theory of a Deadman – Livin’ My Life Like A Country Song

Who They Are:  In the middle of 2013, the platinum-selling Canadian quartet began working on what would become its fifth full-length album, Savages [Roadrunner Records/604]. However, everything in their lives rapidly and unexpectedly changed. Whether it be a shakeup at their label, waning interest in rock at radio, or the downturn of society at large, a myriad of issues weighed heavy on members Tyler Connolly [Lead Vocals, Lead Guitar], David Brenner [Rhythm Guitar], Dean Back [Bass], and Joey Dandeneau [Drums].

Why I Like Them: If you’ve read some of my other reviews you know I’m not a country fan. I am having to make an exception for this little diddy. This song has what I consider a pretty typical country vibe to it, but that’s actually one of the things I like. I wanna take a moment to talk about the lyrics here. I love how smart these lyrics are. I can’t help but laugh as I’m listening to the song. One of my favorite lines is “I’m livin like I’m in a Willie Nelson track”. There is a tone to the vocals that really carries this song. It’s done done in a plaintive way, more like a” well so this is the way things” are kinda way. Musically there is some really great slide work that I didn’t expect but loved. Overall I really liked this tune and plan to put it on a playlist.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Based on this song alone I would totally listen to more of their stuff. The songwriting is what really grabbed my attention. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re so losing out.

Who They Are: Imminent Riot is a 4 piece punk band from St. Petersburg, FL. They play riff-based hardcore punk with a little thrash thrown in for good measure.

Why I Like Them: Umm.. cause this some totally off the hook old school punk man! The disjointed rhythms and the pacing on the vocals. I’m feeling a total Dead Kennedy’s thing here. It has the right amount of attitude and almost dirty production feel. I’ve always had a hard time with trying to describe good punk music, so my best advice is to listen yourself and the love it.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Oh God yes. I love old school punk so this already has a place on multiple playlists.

Rich Kreischer – Rockin The U.S.A.

Who They Are: Rich Kreischer, born Feb. 23, 1967, from Convoy, Ohio. Has wrote, recorded, and played in the Midwest for many years. His newest project is his third solo CD titled “ECLIPSE”.

Why I Like Them: I’m a child of the 80’s so I am genetically coded to love this song! I know even uttering the phrase “Hair Metal” can get your ass kicked in some circles, I am going to say this is a quintessential “Hair Metal” song. And I mean that in the best way possible. There are some awesome guitar twists going on in this jam that make allow it to not feel dated. Vocals are sweet with that bit of tension I’ve come to love when used properly.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: I’m really hoping to see more new stuff outta this guy. He’s really got some talent. So short answer is yes.

All Whales Go To Heaven – The Foolish and the Young

Who They Are: All whales Go To Heaven are a four-piece alternative indie band based in Cambridge.

Why I Like Them: Loving the funky feel of this tune. There is some really tight drum work going on. Also there is a really ethereal feel to this song. It reminds me a bit of the Cranberries style with Zombie in an odd way. It also makes me think it would be a great soundtrack to just about any Quentin Tarantino flick, but especially Pulp Fiction. Let’s talk for a minute about the vocals. I love the full round sound this girl is working with. Sometimes you can hear a bit of thinness in the voice when it’s so prominently displayed. Music/lyrics and vocals all mesh beautifully in this slow tempo piece.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Sure. I would put it on a zen style playlist for when I’m just chillin’ out. Maybe with a bubble bath, some chocolates and a good stiff drink.

Adelitas Way – Dog on a Leash

Who They Are: Adelitas Way is a five-piece rock group hailing from Las Vegas, Nevada formed in 2005. Their first single, Invincible, is the official theme song of WWE Superstars on WGN America, which first aired on April 16 2009. Since Invincible became so successful on the show, Adelitas Way were approached by the WWE staff and asked to write a song for the tag-team Legacy featuring Randy Orton. A New Day was penned and recorded and is now the entrance theme for Legacy. Invincible was featured on the CSI Miami Finale commercials which aired on CBS between May 11 2009 – May 18 2009.

Why I Like Them: There are a lot of reasons I like this song. I’m partial to the opening slow build with minimal music. I thought it really did a good job highlighting the lyrics and vocals. When the music really kicks in everything is straight up tight. I’m loving the chorus. Vocally I really dig this cat’s voice, just the right amount of grit.  Overall this song is a super fly upbeat piece of awesome.

Who They Are: My name is Josh Willis. I’m 20 years old, and a solo hard rock artist from Pittsburgh. I have one album out in online stores called “Absolute Zero” My second record titled “Pitch Black” released into stores on December 24, 2013.

Why I Like Them: This song is an awesome jam! It’s got a hard rock rhythm and rap! I think that I would put this on a list with some older Linkin Park for sure. Though to be honest the pounding drums would seriously over power L. P.  OMG, there is also an epic ass guitar solo going on right now that has to be heard to be believed. This my friends is some hard rock perfection. If you haven’t heard Josh Willis yet you are completely missing out on a must have in your rock collection.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: I’m really disappointed that I haven’t listened to more of this already. I’m checking out everything they have. Looks like I’m in for some musical goodies later.

Who They Are: Full of passion, kind of nerdy, sort of mad-scientist-y but never pretentious– they’re a group of four guys that just want to have a good time with music, and to share that spirit with their listeners. They’ve got a sound that strikes a nostalgic cord with millennials, dishing out their own take on the soundtrack that defined generation Y’s childhood. In bonding over the music that they love and grew up with, clones of clones have created a musical byproduct that is both fresh and familiar.

Why I Like Them: Ok, so this band has a nice unique sound. I’m really enjoying the soaring vocals and almost wistful rhythm of the tune. Lyrically I can get on board with the story they are telling. I could see this song used in a movie soundtrack no problem. In one of the good parts of the movie, the part that makes you all happy inside. You know what I mean.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Sure. I like unique.

Silver Story – Bleed

Who They Are: Silver Story is a young, well established rock band from St. Helens, UK. Silver Story originally formed in 2008 and have been playing ever since. Taking influence from a pool of genres, Silver Story’s music has taken on a sound, which is organic and intriguing, yet leaves you with the feeling that you have been listening to them for years. The band’s influences range from artists such as Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Nirvana and 30 Seconds to Mars to Bob Marley and The Beatles.

Why I Like Them: I am really digging the punky rockish vibe of this tune. I love the rhythm of the drums a lot. I’m betting this song would kill in an arena. We have the big vocals, banging guitar work and those drums. Oh hell yeah, there is also some awesome screaming going on that I didn’t expect. One of my favorite singers is Corey Taylor and while the vocalist here doesn’t sound like Taylor he does have that ability to be very melodic then transition seamlessly to that awesome scream/sing thing. Love it.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: For sure! I really enjoyed this song and I’m looking forward to more of their music.

Why I Like Them: Ok, seriously I don’t understand why I haven’t listened to this band already. I finally got to a point where I was actively trying to find some thing I didn’t like. But even my go to (lyrics) didn’t apply. The whole thing is unreal! You have great pounding drums, some seriously aggressive guitar work and some sweet bass action. All this is resting just under the surface of a great rock voice.

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: I already am. ’nuff said. I wish I had more stars to rate them with.
