Joy Valencia – Baby Doll

This is a really interesting and unique tune. Very heavy acoustic guitar work gives this tune the most awesome tone. The only thing better than that guitar line and sweet drum work is Joy’s amazing voice. No matter where she sings in her impressive range it’s so damn solid. She has a great round tone and the idea of a pitch problem is something I doubt even crosses her mind. Her runs are astonishing and her deliver is eloquent and playful all at the same time.

I would love to hear more of what she has out there. This song was funky, feisty and fun. I love the story she’s telling and she sells it so well.  I’m having a really hard time coming up with a good playlist match for this song. I really liked it and plan to download it, but I’m just not sure where I’ll put it. I kinda think I would go for some of the Gwen Stefani stuff as a close (enough) match.
