Who They Are: Blending rock music styles with incredible creativity and positive life messages, Alex offers a unique style with common and enjoyable threads. Why I Like Them: I love this guys guitar style. Its very 80s which you know is some thing I love. Vocally I liked his tone and overall it was a good match with the music. There is a really interesting break in the middle of the song that is a bit slower with a darker feel. I wasnt a huge fan of the lyrics but I would be the first to admit I may be just being bitchy.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: I liked this track well enough that I want to listen to more of his work.

Jerry Danielsen – Looking

Who They Are: It’s clear that Jerry writes from a voice of living life, be it a film or theater score, or a song. He is a composer, performer, producer, interdisciplinary artist, poet and educator. He has extensive experience composing music for film and television, theater, contemporary classical works, jazz, commercial, experimental, as well as music for electronic instruments and traditional orchestras.

 

Why I Like Them: So if the Beatles joined forces with Frank Zappa and did a funk song, this would be it. Does it sound mind bending? It is in the most delightful of ways. The groove on this track is totally awesome, and the chorus is going to be with me for days. There is a deliciously sinister intro for the song that breaks into this great poppy rhythm. Which is odd, because there is no world in which this track would qualify as a pop song. Jerry has a really great distinctive voice that is a real treat and works so well with the lyrics.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Yes. This was just a fun track to listen to. I liked the groove and vibe so I’m excited to see what else this guy has done.

Shinobi Ninja – What If Times

Who They Are: Shinobi Ninja is a genre twisting band with an explosive live show. Based in Brooklyn N.Y., the band’s six diverse characters create a unique sound as they mash up Hip-Hop, Punk, Metal, and Pop.

 

Why I Like Them: While the lyrical content is perhaps not the most upbeat I’ve heard, it’s real. It’s backed however by a funky upbeat rhythm that you can dance to. The vocalist is amazing she has this amazing quality to her voice that immediately makes you think of Lauren Hill. It’s high, sweet and has a lovely tone with just a bit of gravel. Beautiful. The intro is the cutest little kid singing a portion of the chorus. The rap portions are really impressive. I’m not really a big fan of gangster rap, but this is not one of those songs.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: I would recommend this to just about any one. I do plan to check out more of their stuff. I don’t really have a playlist right now that they would fit on, but I think that as I continue to listen to more new music I’ll plan to create one.

Who They Are: A template with Les Pauls, Marshalls, piercing vocals and tight drum & bass grooves paint a familiar rock picture, but the craft of the songwriting and the way the performances are aggressively delivered are refreshing and stand out from the din of today’s rock music.

 

Why I Like Them: Oh man this is a funny ass song! I love the lyrics so freaking much. Vocally I’m really enjoying the tone of this guys voice. It’s nice and gritty but he can hit some great high notes with out losing any of that grit. Nice dirty guitar work as well, which given the content of the song is a bit necessary. There is an awesome guitar solo that you have to check out. Oh, I do feel like I have to warn you this song is so NSFW. So make sure your boss isn’t around if your going to listen to it in your cubicle.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Oh yeah. I can’t wait to listen to some more.

Forging The Truth – Warriors

Who They Are: This metal-core / electronicore 5 piece comes from the Manorville / Mastic area where there is nothing to do but find shows to go to and create music to get one of your own! Inspired and influenced by Woe, Is Me, The Word Alive, I See Stars, and Asking Alexandria, Forging The Truth is ready to take the Long Island music scene by storm, one mosh pit at a time.

 

Why I Like Them: Oh my those are some beautiful harmonies.  The vocalist has a nice round strong voice and is also able to scream his ass off. So total props for that. It’s a personal favorite to see harmony and screamy all in the same song.  There is a really pretty piano intro that I really like that get’s backed by an awesome drum rhythm. I love the slow build that this song offers as it enters the chorus. I also want to give them a nod for the lyrical content.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Yes, I feel like they have a fan in the making right now.

Fight The Fade – Second Horizon

Who They Are: Fight The Fade (stylized as FTF) Is an American rock band from Tulsa, Oklahoma, formed in 2009. The band’s lineup consists of singer Zene Smith; guitarists Tyler Simpson and Bryan Conway; and bassist Trevor Taylor. They are known for their rock music which incorporates other sounds such as alternative rock, hard rock, Respectively, Jason McPhail was the band’s original lead vocalist, and was replaced by Smith in 2011.

 

Why I Like Them: Wow, I’m not sure that why needs an explanation if you listen to the song. I really wanna talk about the drummer for a second. This cat has some serious skins talent! This is a pretty fast paced song (not like thrash, but come on) and that drum beat is truly memorable. Vocals are amazing. This guy has a great range and is extremely good at knowing when to reel it in and when to release the Kraken. Excellent guitar work and I don’t mean that as a “by the way”. I’m not surprised that this band is already touring with some other top notch talent. They deserve it.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: They have an old cover of the Adele tune “Set Fire To The Rain” that I have to hear. So I plan to hit their youtube playlist and see how it goes.

The Oceans Above – I’m Gone

Who They Are: The band is made up of Adam (vocals), Dan (Guitar), Johnny (Bass/ vox) and Nat (drums). Dan, Adam and Johnny, were a part of a former band Many Falls and created The Oceans Above in search of a new direction. The band had only played one show before it was asked to play with up and coming Attention Thieves and Hopeless Records band Neck Deep, they were later asked to support such bands as, Smoking Hearts, Verses, Rat Attack and Roadrunner Records new comers Marmozets. Expect big things from this powerful rock unit.

 

Why I Like Them:  While I wouldn’t call this song “pop” it certainly isn’t so much of a rock tune. It lies some where in between. The vocals are really solid. I feel the emotions that he’s putting into this song. At some points his voice is almost to sweet for the song, almost. Something about it kinda reminded me of some Yellowcard stuff.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Yeah, I want to see what else they have to offer.

Ditchwater – What Do You Want From Me Now

Who They Are: A Hard Rock / Alternative Metal band that hails from Chicago, IL. Music available on iTunes, Amazon & CD Baby

 

Why I Like Them: My first thought was that this song has a nice tight musical composition. I’m really grooving on the float factor here. Can you say happy? I love this guy’s voice he has a great tone and an excellent command of his instrument. I can’t wait to get this song on a playlist so I can jam it on long drives. Seriously the grungy guitar solo is totally not to be missed. Can you say skilled? I know ya can! I would love to see them share the stage with Three Day’s Grace, Seether and Art of Dying.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Yes. I will be checking out Blister as soon as I’m done with the nights reviews. I’m betting that is an awesome track! This is another one of those tracks I wish I had more stars for.

Why I Like Them: I really dig the musical composition of this song. It’s a really up tempo jam with some great guitar and drum work.  There are some absolutely shinning moments of awesome in this track.  Every once in a while I get this almost Three Days Grace flash.  The vocalist is really solid. I love those big moments he has where he let’s it go. The only problem I had with the track was the lyrics were almost staccato in fashion. It’s not a big enough problem that it detracts from the song but you know me.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Since I review single songs and not albums I would certainly listen to more of their stuff. All the elements are there for this to be a playlist favorite of mine. I’m looking for something specific outta this band, and hope to find it in one of their other songs. I would certainly tell any one to give it a listen.

Loudguns – Loud ‘n’ Proud

Who They Are: Loudguns is an independent Hard Rock/AOR band from Finland, formed in 2009. Their first album Broken Highway (2011) gained a lot of attention by selling out in over 40 countries and making it to the magazines and radios.

 

Why I Like Them: It’s 80’s day at musicbank! I’m so happy I could dance! This is another really awesome 80’s metal style song. And every bit of it is perfect. From the totally 80’s hairband big guitars and soaring vocals if you like me are still some what stuck in the 80’s this is a can’t be missed song! I would love to see these guys on the road with Volbeat. The vocalist is truly amazing, I can’t figure out how he hits those high notes.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Yes. I have to, I’m a child of the 80’s. It would be blasphemy not to!

Who They Are: A four piece hard rock band of best friends from Birmingham, AL. We came together because of a mutual love for music and the stage we’ve had all our lives. Why I Like Them: This song sounds like my 20’s. I love the lyrics for this one. I have a few friends I’m already planning on sharing this tune with. I’m thinking Buck Cherry would be a pretty comparable band when it comes to lyrics and vocals. I’m totally down with that I love this sound musically and vocally. There is just the right amount of dirty to the voice that it really sets off the lyrics perfectly. As far as the musical aspects the band know’s what their instruments are capable of and really make it work.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Yes. It makes me feel young again, or some such shit.

Why I Like Them: Right off the bat I’m picking up on a Black Label Society vibe. Slow guitar/drums with a grungy dirty sound. Very nice, one of my favorite guitar sounds as a matter of fact. I kept expecting vocals to kick, but when they didn’t I settled in a jammed out with the musical comp. Normally I’m not a fan of instrumental songs. If I had talent I would be a singer so I’m always after lyrics. That being said I really enjoyed this piece. The instrument work is really tight and the song is pretty relaxing (in a metal way)

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: I plan on it. I’m interested to see if all his work is instrumental of if there are lyrics there some where.

The Pizza Kings – Drivin’ To Vegas

Who They Are: Music has never been so freely available to the listener as it is today; this has created quite a challenge for the old model of the music industry. The Pizza Kings are embracing the new direction(s) of the Independent Music Artists, who nowadays are learning to reinvent themselves, on a grass roots level, one fan at a time. Come and join the party!

Why I Like Them: There is some thing about this song that makes me think of Tom Petty. While not a slow jam it has a fairly relaxed pace. I can see this song on a road playlist. There is some really great guitar work happening almost countryish but not quite.

 

Would I Listen to More of Their Stuff: Probably. I hope the rest of their stuff has the same vibe.

Who They Are: Divot is a three piece hard rock band from Elmira, NY.

 

Why I Like Them: I’m getting that floaty feeling again! You know how much I love that in a song. I think I could float in this guys voice for days with out coming up for air. Honestly I would really like to hear a stripped down version of this tune. Not a s a replacement because I love the musical comp. on this track. I just really like the guys vocals. Now let’s talk for a minute about this really nice guitar solo that they’ve got. Excellent work with that one.
