Rain Diary – Shame (Official Uncensored)

This song comes out swinging with a grand full musical intro. Their specified genre is Dark Wave, I don’t know what that is really. To me this is a cool ass dance track. The lyrics are killing me. “Tonight you’ll scream my name” is the best lyric I’ve listened to all day. This song totally has that “get wild” message and it’s so much fun. Even better than the awesome lyrics is the delivery of said lyrics by their vocalist. This guy is just so awesome. The vocals are totally where it’s at. He can get this really dirty, sexy growly thing going on in his lower register that sends shivers up and down my spine. The crazy up beat tempo on this jam is really going to get your blood pumping. There are some moments when the beat slows ever so much to this very I don’t know, dare I say stripper pace. I mean that in the best of ways. Makes a lady wanna get down and very dirty. Everything about this track musically is a total win.

I want it, I want it, I want it. This after just two listens has gone on to be one of my top 5 favorite songs from the site. I can totally see myself flying down the highway cranking this song as loud as I can while I scream the lyrics. As far as playlist recommendations, I recommend you shoe horn this bitch on every playlist you have. It could make a great tension breaker in a down tempo list at just the right time. More than anything though I suggest you listen to this song post haste!

Who They Are:

Rain Diary was founded in 2007. The year later the band released their self-titled EP that was quickly sold out. ‘A Song of Mellow Weep’ got 4th highest votes at YleX Himotuimmat (most wanted) chart of 2008. The band also started their flourishing collaboration with the director Juha Lankinen who shot a music video for ‘It’s Only Rain’.

In 2009 Rain Diary started their first ‘The Lights Are Violent Here’ recording session with production wizard Jaani Peuhu. At this point bands sound took the first steps towards more electronic approach but still maintaining it’s ”trademarked” candlelit side.

In 2010 band enjoyed their first chart success when single ‘Lost’ hit #18 at Finnish Official Download Charts. To boost the success, Rain Diary’s “graphic visionaire” Jani Saajanaho shot and directed a splendid music video. After the 2nd recording sessions to finish the album the band had minor changes in the line-up when the drummer Topi Kapulainen decided to part ways.

The drummer Teemu Alajoki joined the forces in 2011. Soon the band was ready to hit the studio for the 3rd time to finalize the album. After highly productive sessions the band released their 3rd single ‘Mirror of Your Grace’ for which conceptual artist (i.e. urban shaman) Zabek Ismael shot another brilliant music video.

After an extensive search for the right label, the final piece of the puzzle was set when Rain Diary signed with Secret Entertainment. On it’s release week ‘The Lights Are Violent Here‘ hit TOP10 (7th spot) on Finnish Official Independent Record Store Sales Chart and was 30th on The Official Finnish Album Chart (week 40). Also, the album was voted #1 Alternative debut album of 2013 in a polling held by Levykauppa Äx.

In March 2014 the single ‘Shame’ and on April 4th ‘TLAVH’ were released in Mid-Europe. The extensively touring band broadened the range of venues by playing their first international show in Tallinn on March 29th and cannot wait to tour in Germany in late September 2014.

A Joker’s Rage – Bounce

Loving the hardcore rock intro and that yell is totally awesome. There are some great sound effects weaving in and out of the musical composition that are reminiscent of some of the Zombie tunes. Vocally this is off the charts stellar! The song lies somewhere between pop and rock. But those guitar licks scream rock. Oh my god I’m loving this song so much. I wanna get up and dance my ass off listening to it. So I touched on a bit of everything, but let’s get into the meat and potatoes of it all. The vocalist has a great range with some memorable highs and lows. There are some great scream vocals to be found here as well in addition to a more “clean” style of singing. Currently I’m being treated to one of the best guitar solos I’ve heard in a while. All I can say is I really wanna bounce with these guys.

It’s no surprise to me at all that these guys have already started touring. From the get go all I could think was “why haven’t I heard them on the radio yet?”. This song is so going on my phone ASAP as now that I’ve heard it I can’t not want to hear it again. You could put this with just about anything playlist wise that is rock. My gut reaction is to throw them on a list with some Nickleback, My Darkest Day’s and maybe even some Fall Out Boy.

Who They Are:

One of the fastest growing bands in the north of England with fans now travelling from far and wide, A Joker’s Rage, fronted by clown-in-chief Zakk Taylor, have a winning mix of powerhouse rock, hugely memorable tunes and a delivery not unlike being trampled by a herd of dinosaurs with their hemorrhoids on fire.

One minute the crowd’s moshing, the next they’re headbanging. Give it five minutes and they’re bouncing up and down. Take your eye off ’em for a second and next you know the whole heaving mass is waving their arms and singing along. Ah yes . it’s called having a bloody good time!

It’s a party, it’s celebration of great music, IT’S A PROPER ROCK SHOW and, let’s be honest, when did you last see one of those when you weren’t a mile from the stage and paying fifty quid for the privilege. You might have caught them blowing bigger and ‘better’ bands off stage, or storming a 2000 crowd supporting The Darkness. Whatever, you’re either a convert or about to be.

Far Away Stables – A Beggar’s Plea

Such a sweet guitar intro, almost bluegrass with the style. The vocalist is going to blow you away. I’ve heard some amazing songbirds in my time but few have the power he does. Even when he’s pulled back and in a mellow groove you can feel all that strength behind the voice. It’s clear, round, full and oh so bold. There is just a bit of a ragged edge to his voice that he uses at will to put emphasis on certain lyrics. You aren’t going to be busting a move a move on the dance floor to this song, but you can take your S.O. out for a nice sway. Since this wasn’t an a cappella song, let’s chat about the music for a minute. It’s a really simple musical composition. It’s a great match for the lyrics and singing style. Nice light guitar and drum work underscore a simply amazing song.

I wish I had been able to get to this earlier in the week. I loved the song so much! Some songs just grab you and hold on, this is one of them. My phone will be better for having it on there and I will be pleased as punch to introduce this song to some of my friends. Playlist wise I see this working well with my slower paced Cold, Red and Chevelle.

Forming in late 2011, Far Away Stables came together as one after merging several projects involving Tim Byles (Bass), Mitchell Grace (Guitar/Vocals) and Brendan Sheargold (Vocals) and then quickly recruiting long time friends Nick Palmer (Guitar) and Cam Bury (Drums/Vocals) into the band. Finding there sound came naturally after releasing THE ART OF MADNESS and A BEGGAR’S PLEA to a huge reception.

Far Away Stables may have only just arrived on the scene but are already amassing an intense following and have been unleashing their chaotic live show supporting the likes of international acts such as Paramore (USA), The Offspring (USA), Billy Talent (CAN), The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus (USA), Lydia (USA), Jonny Craig (USA), Tilian Pearson (USA) and playing with local acts such as The Getaway Plan, Closure In Moscow, Hands Like Houses, British India, Northlane, The Rubens, Heroes For Hire, and The Bride.

In March 2014, Far Away Stables released Atlantis with the lead single ‘WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?’ which received airtime from JJJ and MMM, as well as rotation on several US stations. I can’t get over how great a lyricist he is. Every song I’ve heard is amazing, and this song is no different. The music is a multi-tempo style with a slower simpler sound during the verses than the chorus. Though there are some really nice swells worked into the versus that work well as punctuation to the story he’s telling. Vocally he’s at the top of his game on this song. We are treated to some nice lows as well as those beautiful high notes that he’s so good at. To me this song feels like flying.

To be honest I reviewed the album. If you want to read the whole review, here is the link. What I’ll say here is that I loved the whole album. My personal favorite track is title track ‘Food Chain’. The whole album however is wonderfully done and an overall enjoyable listen.

World War Me – Michelle

Nice tight upbeat rhythm. I like the pace of the song. The vocals are outstanding, with a surprising range from the lead vocalist. The vocal and musical style of the verses is really quite enjoyable. The chorus is a lot of fun to listen to and even more fun to sing along to if you have a mind. There is a gritty quality to the lead singers voice that is absolutely perfect for the song. I checked out the lyrics and love em. This has to be one of the best fuck you songs I’ve heard in a long time. It makes the song ‘Gives You Hell’ sound like a children s lullaby. The guitar and drum work do an awesome job at really driving the point home with some terribly hooky lines. There is jsut the faintest whiff of punk to this song with the delivery of some of the lyrics.

I can’t wait to hear more of their stuff. in fact I’m going to take off and go download this song to add it to my phone. You know how I feel about songs on my phone, so you know this one is a keeper. I would match this with other angry songs like ‘Spare Me The Details’ from The Offspring as opposed to other bands that sound the same. I get on these theme kicks from time to time and hateful music is always welcome.

P Bailey – Mystery (Sava Boric Mix)

Nice! I don’t get much R&B and to be honest I’ve always kinda liked that genre. There are some songs out there by Usher and Pharrell that I really dig. P. Bailey has one of those voices that R&B upcoming singers covet. It’s a smooth as butter when he needs it to be, but he’s able to put a rough edge to his vocals to really punch up a line in the song. This may be one of the first times I wish that I had chosen a different song. Since this is a mix, there are some elements that I bet aren’t in the original track and I would love to hear it a bit stripped down. These extra beats kinda throw me off a bit. That being said, his vocals are still well worth the price of admission.

I totally want to hear more of his work. With a voice like that I can’t imagine how any one could over look this gem of a singer. Despite my deep abiding love for all things metal, I can get down with the R&B stuff. Especially with the R&B/Pop blends. For example this particular track I would match with my Pharrell, Usher and JT songs. I also have some Maroon 5 on that list as well. Adam’s just so damn soulful when he sings. Sorry, I digress… Mr. Bailey has an amazing range and I would like to explore more of it.

Breaking Belief – Whispers in Silence

That voice reminds me of some thing, I can’t quite put my finger on it. Maybe like if Joe Cocker did some serious rock and roll. Either way I really dig it. It’s got a groovy rock vibe that I’m really appreciating. The chorus is great and I’m pretty sure I’ll have it going through my head later tonight when I’m trying to go to sleep. The guitar work has a great gritty edge to it. It’s not overplayed but still a key element to the song. There are some parts where Rob get’s a chance to tear it up with his ax, very nice work by the way. The drum line Jamie gives us is nice and upbeat, very much a rock style with tons of energy. As I said before I really liked Scott’s voice a lot. It’s not a common style in the rock world which makes it really stand out.

I liked what I heard enough to check out some more of it. While this particular song was fun to listen to I am not sure I want to download it. It doesn’t really fit any of my current lists but I might get it for a one off list or when I just want to throw some random songs together and see where the music takes me. I don’t mean that as a criticism to the band in any way. If it was I wouldn’t be interested in check out their library. I’m confident they have other songs that would completely bowl me over.

Norwich based Alternative/Pop/Rock band Breaking Belief reformed back in 2009 with original members Scott Slater, Jamie Slater and Rob Leman-Brown. A month after they reformed, spending 3 years apart, they wrote their debut single Whispers in Silence (Released in 2011) and their debut EP Firefights Begin (Released in 2012). The band started recording Whispers in Silence at Ashwood Studios in November 2011 and recorded, produced, mixed and mastered Firefights Begin in their practise room.
Their earlier work sounded influenced but Breaking Belief have found their own unique sound and style through writing. Every song they write expands their already diverse original vocabulary. Smooth sweeping vocal harmonies layered with powerful, gritted lead vocals is the fundamental structure. Stacked behind are loud but immersing drums, a heavy played bass with an extra order of low end and beautifully composed guitars that turns the song into a work of pure musical art.
Breaking Belief are currently recording their second single and debut album at Ashwood Studios.

Nice steady drum beat in the intro, while the guitar slowly builds on it’s self. The pace of the song doesn’t really swing above a slow tempo which is perfect for the song. An equally easy going guitar lines really underlays the vocals. I like the restraint of the guitar as it really lest Lexi’s vocals shine. She has the same range that Lacey Mosely (formerly of Fly Leaf) has. It’s a beautiful range for a rock singer. The higher register generally leads to an almost pleading tone with no real effort. In this case that works perfectly into the lyrics. I really loved the story they were telling through the lyrics. I think we’ve all had moments when we felt just like this.

I really enjoyed this song. I would absolutely check out the rest of their library of songs. This is absolutely one for my phone. Of course I would put it on my power chicks list. Lexi has such a strong vocal style she belongs with the rest of my iconic female leads. I would also put this on a list with some of my Cold, Red and Chevelle. While those aren’t female lead bands, they do share a musical style.

Lucks Lane – The Truth Behind The Lies

I was totally stoked to get the opportunity to review this song. If you read my news updates, you know that this album doesn’t drop until Nov. 21st so consider this your preview. I’m loving the vocals, they are very 80’s hair band style and for me that’s totally awesome. This song has all the makings of an arena favorite. The tempo is not speed racer or any thing but your not going to be just swaying on a dance floor when you hear it. The guitar work is really well done. Lead guitarist Steve Potter has done a great job at picking his moments to show off his skills, while Joe ‘Kenny’ Daglish keeps up quite nicely with a steady rhythm line. The bass line is simple but creates a perfect bridge between the guitar work and Pete King’s steady drum work. Steve Cairney proves that the 80’s style of singing is not dead, but just getting better all the time. While there are no trademark high pitch 80’s screams (which were not missed by the way) the stead rock that is his style is a welcome shift from the grungy/screaming vocals I’ve been hearing a lot lately. I also need to give it up to Pete Moore who writes the songs. I’m a lyric freak and I really like his style and the story he’s telling.

Because I was lucky enough to get this opportunity I can tell I’ve listened to all of Story of Our Lives by Luck Lane and thoroughly enjoyed all of it. I’ll be reviewing the full album next weekend on my Rebel Mouse blog if you want to hear my thoughts on the whole album. What I will say is I do have a couple of favorite tracks and there is one that made my phone already. It’s been hard for me not to share this with my other music freak friends, so I can’t wait for the official release. I’m telling you, listen to the songs and mark your calendar so you can buy this as soon as it’s officially released.

Lucks Lane is a rock band made up from like-minded musicians. They have joined forces to collaborate on the songs of songwriter Pete Moore. All the members have brought their own original ideas and unique styles to the band. Steve Potter is the lead guitarist and is the creative genius behind the guitar solo’s and signature riffs.
Joe ‘Kenny’ Daglish is the rhythm guitarist, but is a very gifted musician who is equally at home behind the keyboard and provides backing vocals for the band. Pete King is a very energetic drummer, he is the metronome for the band and as such, he always ensures they never arrive late for the end of a song. Steve Cairney is an extremely talented vocalist, who is very much at ease with all styles of singing. He has been responsible for making the lyrics become the center point of each song. Dan Stimpson is the bass guitarist who can transform the feel of a song with a driving bass line. He can also play rhythm or lead guitar. Mikey is the bands sound engineer and has had a major influence on producing the bands distinctive sound. Pete Moore is the bands songwriter. He has been lucky enough to see his ideas take form from the talent of the other band members. He has surrounded himself with talented musicians in the hope that some of it might rub off!

Amongst Thieves – The Lost Art Of Conversation

This is how you wake up on a Sunday morning! I love the upbeat nature of this song, This is an excellent example of the use of double bass in a more “radio friendly” format that I’ve talked about before. For those of us who were late to the Thrash/Metal party songs like this are an great introduction to a drum style normally associated with thrash. Andy must sweat buckets when they preform. Vocally I am in oceans of love with the track. There are clean and screaming vocals to this song and both are pulled off with the grace and ease of a seasoned veteran. I always get excited when I see double guitar players. These boys work amazingly well together. The guitar work is top notch.

I’m excited about this band! I have every intention of listening to more of their music. As a matter of fact I liked this track enough I want to get it on my phone. Playlist wise I kept thinking I wanted to hear them with Rise Against. They both have the same style of tight musical arrangements and clean/screaming vocals. I would also match this with Bullet for My Valentine on a playlist. I think I should leave you now cause the more I think of it the more I want to go and get this song on my phone. Make sure you listen to this song then get it for yourself!

Black Ink Breakdown – Black Sea Burn

Reviewing live songs is a chore and a hoy all at the same time. Live is always fun but listeners are at the mercy of your sound guy. So I’m thinking I may have to listen to this song a few times, but right off the bat I gotta say the vocalist has some serious Eddie Vedder moments. Loving that right there. Like I said there are moments, but he’s certainly not a Vedder clone and I like that. He’s got a great style and tone to his vocals. The music was some where between grunge and rock with a nice upbeat tempo. I liked the guitar line, it was nice and upfront. Sadly though I think that the recording causes the vocalist to get a little lost behind the line. The song is amazing and I plan to look for a studio cut of it.

I liked their groove and really want to hear more. I would like to find some studio cuts to hear the players a little better. Honestly I think we have a great band here that needs to get a little more love. You could playlist this song with just about any other grunge era song and it would play well. I know that most people immediately jump to all the lower grunge songs that came out but in truth there were tons of rocking’ ass songs that game out of the grunge groups. Make sure you check this track out, you won’t regret it.

Life Lessons – Between You, Me, & Everyone Else

I am totally into this song. The guitar work in the intro is this crazy up beak guitar driven piece of happy. This song is the perfect marriage of the 90’s grunge and today’s Pop/Rock style. The vocals are really strong with a pretty decent range and the backup vocals are kinda stellar and able to do some amazing soaring vocals. The lyrical subject matter is one I think every one can relate to so there’s some kuddos for that. I really am all about the guitar work though. Not to take anything away from the vocals, but I’m just in love with the guitar work. They are just the tiniest bit dirty and there are some sarcastic moments to the playing style.

Overall I love this song and it’s players well enough I want to hear more. I would really like to see them play live as I bet that is some thing to see. I keep thinking I would see them with a band like Red or Chevelle. The music isn’t’ really like to like, but some thing about the idea seems right.
