The Snakers – Satisfaction

I opted for this song because old school Stones songs are sacred and this is one I’ve always loved. I liked the way The Snakers played this one out. About the only thing I can say I was disappointed with was it was alive performance so there a couple of times where the audience was a bit louder than the singer. Aside from that the song was a great cover. The players did an excellent job and were on point during the whole song. Vocally this singer has a bit deeper voice than Jagger, but I found that to be a good match.

I liked the cover enough I would check out the rest of their work. I liked the players a lot and it sounds like as a band they know how to work a crowd. That would make me want to see them live. I think the song would be best in a classic rock line up playlist wise. Some old Stones of course and maybe some of the more upbeat Seger and maybe Boston.

Worldwide Groove – When The Holiday Brings You Home

If you are looking for some modern Christmas music then I have an offering for you! Worldwide Groove has released a wonderful ditty for the holidays. The vocalist has the perfect voice for a Christmas song. It’s so clear, sweet and that bit of innocence I think we all look for this time of year. I’m enjoying the story line so much. Makes me wanna spend time with my loved ones sharing stories, congratulating each other on our wins and offering a supportive hand to cope with the losses. Musically it’s so interesting! It’s not a traditional band, its more electropop so it’s more of these sound effects and tones layered beautifully upon each other yet still taking a backseat to the vocals.

I’m going to download this and put it on my Christmas playlist. It’s got all my old favorites along with a couple of new songs that I know will be favorites very soon. It’s got a bit of a classic taste to it so you can put it with your older pop Christmas songs from bands like The Carpenters. It’s going to make the perfect backdrop to your holiday festivities!

Who They Are:
Worldwide Groove Corporation are definitely against the grain in the city they call home. Being known for their electronic flair, whether it be programmed pop or downtempo chill, WGC are anything but country when left to their own creative inspiration. This blessing/curse in the midst of Nashville, TN has given them a niche that keeps them working on a variety of music projects for people from around the world.

Between the work of Kurt and Ellen, their music has been used in films, on national TV ad campaigns, in major network TV shows, and discussed at international arts festivals.

Their string arrangements have been featured on records for artists such as Third Day and Plumb, and they are known for their talent of reinvention which is evident in their classic country remixes and their treatment of old jazz standards on their 2007 record “Fever: Chillodesiac Lounge, vol. 1”.

From this record, their instrumental track “Smoke & Mirrors” topped the chart on the Sirius XM chill station for two months, and several tracks have appeared on compilations around the world. Fifteen DJs in 10 different countries contributed their amazing talents to the WGC remix releases in 2009, giving them a tremendous global connection.

As artists, in 2014 WGC are releasing a series of singles and small EPs expanding their musical umbrella, ranging from purely fun electro pop to deeper more emotionally complex downtempo leanings. Although the emotional range is broad, the core of their tracks, the rich textures, sultry grooves and catchy beats remain the staple of their sound. The series is called the “Year of the Groove” and includes their electropop song “Supermodel Astronaut” which sparked the Supermodel Astronaut Challenge.

Vincent Musanti – Toxic Reign

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing several guitar virtuoso’s in my life. Back in the day my friend Colby could tear some shit up. My BFF’s brother’s kid is in a band called Osmium and they rock ass. Vincent Musanti is another one of those guitarists that once you hear him you know he is going places. The kid is 15 years old and plays better than some 40 year olds you hear on the radio. He has a brilliant sense of timing and his fret work is outstanding. He’s the kind of guitarist you could easily see someone like Ozzy picking up and launching (see Zakk Wylde).

While not a fan of instrumentals, I gotta give this one it’s due. The drum work is really solid and provides the perfect backbone for the guitar lines to rest on. The guitar work itself is spectacular. I would love to see this kid in a metal band. That would be some kick your ass music with the right band members. I’m downloading this song so I can put it on a list with some Vai. I don’t have a lot of instrumentals yet, but my kids and my hubby like them from time to time, so I’m going to start building a list.

Who They Are:
I am a 15 year old guitarist/songwriter from Jackson, NJ. I’ve been playing for 4 years. Finished five master recordings in 2012 and three of them have been released on Itunes. “Toxic Reign” and “Six String Mayhem” were done by me at 14.

Jacob Machine the Dream King – Under Pressure ft. Greg Picket

I’ve always kind of liked that behind the music kind of feel when you hear the artists talking either before or after the song. The music is really good. Reminds me of some of the older Carlos Santana stuff.  The rap lyrics are really good, but it’s an odd thing because the rap vocals have this odd tone. A bit like if the nerdy guy at school started rapping. For some reason it makes me think of some Bloodhound game vibes. The lyrics tell a great story and the flow is rather amazing. The melody in the chorus is really damn good. I love that rich full voice.

I enjoyed the track, certainly enough to check out some more. I don’t know that this will be my favorite Jacob Machine song but it does make me want more. So that’s pretty good. I want to put this on a list though with some of the Santana pair up songs like the songs with Nickleback’s Chad Kroger, Matchbox Twenty’s Rob Thomas and The Product G&B. I bet this would flow like water in that list. So maybe I will download it. Hrmmm….

Daniel Ray – Blue In The Face – Alkaline Trio cover

This is another song where I have to admit I don’t know the original. I love that this is done as an acoustic jam. This guy has an amazing voice, reminds me a bit of Billy Joe Armstrong (Green Day). He has damn near the same vocal range and tone. So, so love that! I gotta say that I really like this song. I’ll have to check out the original, but I like so much about this cover I think it might have jaded me to the original. This guy is really good at knowing when to blow it out with the vocals and when to hold back. That is really important when it comes to connecting with your listener. I mean if your always “on” there is no way to emphasize any of the lyrics.

I can’t wait to hear more of this guy’s stuff. I noticed he does a lot of covers on Youtube, but I’m hoping that soon he will put out some original material. He certainly has the voice to go anywhere he wants in music.  As for this song I would grab a copy and throw it on my Green Day, Good Charlotte, and Smile Empty Soul. I think it would be a great match.

THE BONESMEN – Slow Down

Love that bluesy riff in the intro for the song. Sounds really great live for sure! Build up with the drums and… now we have a funky classic rock/blues track. I’m really sad that it looks like this band is defunct. I am enjoying the vocals and guitar work. Together all the players seem to have a good grasp on what they are trying to accomplish and I would have loved to see them live.

I think they are defunct only because there haven’t been any recent tweets since 2012 and the last album I can find for them on their website is a 2009 release. I liked the song enough I would check out their studio release albums. If you happen to know these guys, can you tell them to let me know what’s up?

Slow Down from The Bonesmen on Myspace.

Who They Are:

The Bonesmen are a rock band that hales from New Haven Ct USA . Rock & roll bonesmen style is all American down home music with it’s foundation firmly placed in the blues and country.  Since emerging on the New England music scene they have put out 2 cd’s . The 2007 debut “ Skin & Bones”and the 2009  “ Deuce” both of which received favorable reviews here at home and through out Europe.  The band is comprised of front man /founding member Frankie Thomas vocals / guitar. Veteran bonesmen bass player Kenny Dempsy and introducing drummer Joe Gator and lead guitarist Brit Daniels.  In 2014 The Bonesmen will set out to make their 3rd studio release and to perform live for an ever widening audience. The Bonesmen aren’t trying to reinvent the wheel, they are just doing their part to keep it rolling.

The Bonesmen have enjoyed kicking up the dust all over the Northeastern US while promoting their two studio albums. They’ve shared the stage with artist like, Johnny Winter, Mountain, Vanilla Fudge, Marshal Tucker, Extreme and Brett Michaels, among others. Their 2007 debut release Skin and Bones was well received by both local club audiences and international radio listeners alike. 2009’s Deuce brought the band a wider audience via internet radio and international music publications.  Expect 2014 to bring you the band’s third album, peppered with live performances that spread the scripture of good times rock ‘n’ roll.

Kaveat – Immortal Machine

That guitar work is totally off the hook crazy man! I love the blazing rhythm of this track. This one starts strong and just keeps building. Those screaming vocals combined with Segan’s clean vocal styles are a brilliant match. I love how her voice seems to float just above the music, while those screaming vocals tether her to the song. The percussion is wild as hell. The sometimes staccato nature of the drum work reminds me a lot of some of my favorite Slipknot songs. There are some truly amazing tension breaks in this song, which is great because the music has some really good build ups.

Let’s see do I like this song? Umm, hell yea I do! I want to get this on my phone for my trip tomorrow. I have been building a list with some Slipknot, In This Moment, Static X and I think this one would fit in perfectly. I’ll turn it up as loud as I can and my son and I will rock our asses off on the road!

Six OH! 4 – Weed, Cigs and ‘Murica

First off, I love those sound bites in the beginning. This song makes no bones about how the lyricist feels. I’m loving the music it’s such an interesting flow. I like the way the variant sounds seem to flow not over one another but through each other. This is a mind bending almost ambient style tune. There are no “lyrics” to speak of, but an arrangement of sparked sound bites.

Now to the good stuff, this was a great song. I’m kinda surprised that I liked it as much as I did. I’m not afraid to admit I chose this song because of its title. I’m not sure what I was expecting but I know it wasn’t what I got. So I suggest you go ahead and check the tune. Let your self be surprised every once in a while. I doubt you’ll regret it.

Tattered – Lies

Dude, I totally love that guitar riff in the intro. Am I feeling some serious Rise Against influence here or am I way off base? I think it’s that guitar work that is giving me that vibe so hard core. The drum work is extremely solid. It’s an up tempo rock beat with a couple of really nice change ups. The vocalist is able to do both clean and screaming vocals, always a plus in my book. The lyrical content is not of a shiny happy nature by any means, but that is what I like about them. Those lyrics are real this kind of thing happens and I felt the singer connect really well and told a great story.

All in all I really liked this song. I was very impressed with the guitar work and would love to hear more of it. The vocalist’s ability to connect with his lyrics allowed me to really get into the song. I would like to pair this song up with some Rise Against.

Carl Elizondo & The Royal Union Of Architects – Council Flat

I am getting so many flavors of music in this song it’s outrageous! I’m having a blast just setting here enjoying the patchwork quilt rich sounds. There are moments where this track feels like a 60’s throw back with a dash of Oasis and maybe even a bit of Styx in the beginning. The drum line is a great happy, poppy beat while the guitar has this slightly muted dirty sound. I loved the guitar solo, that riff is so fun to listen to.  Vocally I am grooving on his voice. His song style reminds me of Oasis. It’s kinda trippy the way he modulates his voice.

This song is like an acid trip for your brain. I can see it as a soundtrack piece or playing at home while hanging out with friends. I like it well enough I want to hear more from the band and download this to my server. I have some Beatles, Oasis and even some Alice in Chains I was to pair it with and see what happens.

Who They Are:
Carl Elizondo & the Royal Union of Architects have been writing music for years, taking the world that revolves around them and putting it to words. A lot of their music is kind of the standard protocol of songwriting such as love gained, love lost, depression and life.

The Beatles and Oasis are the main influences in Carl’s music ” as Noel Gallagher said ” (in reference to him borrowing from the Beatles) ” if you are going to pinch, you might as well pinch from the best” “I do believe that” Carl says ” it’s not like I don’t have an original Idea in my head, I just like that sound.” “I do try to write from the hip, meaning that I try not to think the songs out too much, they are what they are”.

Taking on the daunting task of writing, recording and producing each song has been the biggest challenge Carl faces ” every day is a learning journey” not having an education in music or even recording, Carl hits this task head on. ” It doesn’t scare me, the not knowing, it invites me in, I always say -Life is based on logic- and I can think anything out, my other creed is- I will cross that bridge when I get to it-, so I don’t worry about what I don’t know, I will eventually get it!”. And he does, this can be heard on the first CD The Crystal & The Cross, and again on The Tomes of Lore.

In April 2010,they released their third Album titled Pieces of Eight (referring to the Spanish coins of old), to great reviews, among this group of self penned Brit Rock gems is “Content at Tea” a song that pays homage to a “Barmy Nack”, someone in Carls past, and “Seven Seas” a song of lost love on the high seas, these are two of the featured tracks in this collection. Carl says he has song ideas streaming into his head at all hours of the day, especially at 2 in the morning! “I have at least 40 songs that are just waiting to be recorded, plenty of fodder to choose from!” Carl usually sequesters himself in his recording studio towards the winter months, his favourite time of the year to record. “Sales are good, wish they were better but I’m not in this to become rich, just got to get this stuff out o me head?
The next CD scheduled for a 2012 release is titled:
At Her Majesty’s Command We Present: The Royal Union of Architects”

Disappearer – Dog From Hell (pcp mix)

I like the dark atmosphere of the song. It’s got a lot of really good almost demony guitar work. There’s also a stellar drum line at work here. I miss a vocal track, but that’s just me. I never really have understood the idea behind instrumental songs. However I do feel like this one is special. It’s not about “Hey, I’m the most awesome guitarist that ever lived!!”. This one seems to me more about creating an atmosphere and allowing the listening to visualize a story line for the music. I kinda like that part. I think the more I listen to instrumental music the more I understand it.

Despite my non love for the instrumental, I think this one I would like to download and keep around. I can think of several scenarios where this track would be awesome. For instance when my metal minded friends come over I can throw this one and we can enjoy it while we chat and stuff. Overall a good track and well worth the time to take a listen.

Adam Jensen – Numb

I like the nice dark undertones in the song. But that voice is absolutely killing me. I mean the things I wanna do to that voice are probably not legal in certain states. It’s rich, full and really sexy. Those vocal breaks are amazing. The lilt of his voice is a perfect cadence during the chorus. The music is well composed and underscores his voice in the best possible way. And is that a violin in the background? I can’t quite tell what it is, but it’s really eerie and I love it. Also loving the lyrics a whole lot. This song is telling me a story and I’m buying every bit of it.

I’m already planning on checking out more of his music. That voice got me where I live so I have to hear more of it. It’s not a choice, I just have to. I would put this on a seduction list though I’m sure others would argue. But I was caught up far more in the sounds of this song than the lyrics. Just looking at it that way I could totally have this going on a list with “things going on” and be perfectly ok with it.

Just Another Traitor – Not The American Average (Asking Alexandria Cover)

So we are all square, I am not familiar with the Asking Alexandria version of this song. So I won’t be comparing the two works.

This song will wake you up in the morning. The intro kicks your ass right off the bat, I like that. There is so much going on in this track it’s hard to keep track of where I’m at in the review. There are some amazing screaming vocals that I would love to hear more of! The clean vocals are pretty decent to, though I think sometimes the guy is pushing himself a bit hard when he hits the high end of his register. I love how this song pulls influence from several genres. I catch a bit of punk, thrash, and death metal all in one song. There is even an absolutely beautiful moment of piano work with some amazing vocal work and harmonies. I did not see that coming at all! I love this down tempo moment, it’s perfect in the middle of all the musical chaos that is the bulk of the song.

Parts of this song remind me a lot of old Obituary songs my husband listens to. Especially in those moments with that deep growling vocal style. I also think I could list this with the heavier Slipknot because they both have that chaotic musical style down to an art form. All and all this is a song that I would like to have on my server.  This may be one of the most bizarre songs that I’ve reviewed, but I also think it’s one of the most fun.

Pushing the Sun – Tragic Love

This is a great track! I’m loving the guitar work throughout the song. There were some really awesome riffs and slides. Reminds me a bit of the guitar work back in the days of “big” guitars. It’s got a tinge of dirty, which to me is always a win. The drum line is a solid up tempo hard rock beat. I bet this guy’s working his ass off during this song.  The vocals kill. It’s the perfect match for the style of the song. I love the touch of gravel to his voice, not too much but just enough. He’s got a great range and the sustained notes are brilliant.

I want this song right now. I want to put it on a playlist with some of other really guitar heavy songs. I’ll throw it on my phone and have it ready when I take my trip this Friday. Fans of hard rock are going to appreciate the guitar and drum work especially.

Who They Are:

Bringing light to your life with fire in their hands- Guitarist Billy Connally launched Pushing the Sun in 2012. After his successful instrumental album release, The Silent Canvas on Steve Vai’s Digital Nations label, Connally was ready to return to his roots — a rock band with a charismatic lead vocalist. Releasing a 3 song ep and a music video for their song Tragic Love, the band has rapidly gained momentum playing a ton of gigs in Northern California including an opening slot for Rockstar Uproar when it came to the Shoreline Amphitheater. Pushing the Sun worked with producer Tim Narducci (Systematic & SpiralArms) on their upcoming full length album “House of Lights” which is scheduled to be released in January of 2014. Their music can be described as a balance of musicianship and songwriting that is constantly evolving and dynamic, while still maintaining songs rich with addictive riffs and catchy hooks.
